Look Youthful & Vibrant as You Age with Grace Yet, says Fortis doctor
Delivers talk on ‘How to prevent premature ageing’ at GCG-11

Chandigarh, May 15, 2015: “There are different rates of aging for different people. It depends on various factors - genetic, dietary, environment and lifestyle. In simple words, ageing is nothing but gradual decline in functioning of various body organs (wear and tear)”, said Dr. A.B Prabhu, MS (General Surgery &MCh (Plastic Surgery), who is Consultant – Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery at Fortis.

He was delivering a lecture at Government College for Girls, Sector 11, on Thursday, which was attended by over 40 teachers. The doctor’s thrust was on aging with grace and‘How to prevent premature ageing’.

Dr. Prabhu, said ageing is an inevitable and an irreversible process programmed to happen since birth. “There are different rates of aging for different people. It depends on various factors - genetic, dietary, environment and lifestyle. In simple words, ageing is nothing but gradual decline in functioning of various body organs (wear and tear),” he said.

Facial aging is a result of changes at multiple levels, he added, “Skin, Fat, Muscle and Bone.” The visible signs of ageing include forehead and temple lines, fat loss in cheeks, hollowing of midface, vertical wrinkles, chin wrinkles, marionette lines, nasolabial lines and jaw contours, among others.

Importantly, there are two kinds of ageing – intrinsic (which is preprogrammed) and extrinsic (aggravated by external agents). “The extrinsic ageing is relatively under our control. For instance, we must limit sun exposure, say no to smoking, follow a healthy diet, get the hormonal disorders treated, avoid repetitive facial expressions, etc,” DrPrabhu said.

“With advent of technology, there is now more than one path to ageing – natural, non-invasive and invasive. Of these, though natural is the best course, not all of us have the time to take care of our skins and lifestyle. So, skilled and experienced plastic surgeons determine each patient’s skin health and suggest the treatment as per individual needs. For instance, now there are excellent techniques to remove wrinkles, restore loss of volume, reduce brown spots & restore collagen, tighten neck muscle and restore volume in lip,” he said.

He told the teachers about face rejuvenation techniques that many in the Tricity were now availing.
