150 saplings planted at Khalsa College
Mohali, August 21, 2014: 110 students of NSS Unit planted over 150 saplings at the campus of Khalsa College (Amritsar) of Technology and Business Studies, Mohali here today. Chief Guest on the occasion was Tejinder Singh Saini, Division Forest Officer, Mohali.
Tree Plantation was carried out in association with Members of Khalsa Alumni Association and Local managing Committee Members of Punjab Environment Society. The members included GS Bopari, Swaran Singh Amarjeet Singh, Col BS Sarao, Yudhvir Singh, Col Jatinder Singh-President, Punjab Heritage and Education foundation, Nirmal Singh Sandhu-General Secretary, Dr SPS Nosanj-landscape Adviser, Punjab, Sukhmider Singh Bains, and SRS Harzuria.
The Chief Guest, Mr. Saini said tree plantation is important to conserve environment. He added life was not possible without trees and advised plantation of long lasting trees.
Dr Harish Kumari addressed the gathering and said that the NSS Unit of the college has initiated the plantation with a message that trees are the basic of our existence. These days many health hazards are emerging on the forefront because there are fewer plantations and trees are being cut down for construction purposes. So it is very important to maintain the balance of environment and to fully offset the changes brought about global warming plantation of trees is very important, she added.
