BBC BIG Mulaqat




Bollywood actor Irfan Khan and India's unsung sports heroes Sqdn. Leader S.S Hakim and D.S
Yadav were in Chandigarh to participate in the BBC BIG Mulaqat, a part of BIG FM and BBC's
flagship programme.

With Olympics coming, the discussion in BBC BIG Mulakat will revolve around how India as a
nation takes care of its sportspersons, whether sportspersons other than cricketers get their due in
terms of fame and money and what is life for a sportsperson who has brought India glory in the
national and international arena.

Some of the sportspersons who are participating include S.S Hakeem (who represented India in
the 1960 Rome Olympics) and D.S Yadav, an Arjuna Award winner who represented India in
the 1992 Summer Olympics in Barcelona. They will talk about their own personal experiences
and highlight the issues that they have faced. Irfan Khan will talk about his insights into the role
of Indian sportsperson Paan Singh Tomar, as he prepared for it and the kind of feedback he has
received from sportspersons across the country.

Dharmendra Singh Yadav

Dharmendra Singh Yadav is a boxer and received the Arjuna Award for boxing in 1991. Mr.
Yadav represented India 19 times in international events from 1989 to 1994. He won three silver
and seven bronze medals. He won a bronze medal at the 1990 Commonwealth Games (light
flyweight division). Mr. Yadav competed in the flyweight division at the 1992 Summer
Olympics. He turned professional in 1995, the first Indian boxer to do so.

Sqdn. Ldr. S.S. Hakeem
Sqdn. Ldr. S.S. Hakeem is the only Indian Sportsman who is a football Olympian, international
(FIFA) referee, national coach, AFC referees’ instructor, administrator for 31 years (with 16
years experience in sports administration) expert commentator, lecturer and writer. He looks
after the entire sports of the Jamia Millia Islamia and Jamia Schools as Consultant-cum-Advisor
(Sports), Jamia Millia Islamia.
